Coaching, not just guiding
I am Neil, a climbing coach based in Sheffield and working across the Peak District. I have been climbing for 30 years, on gritstone, sport and trad, and I have spent the last 25 coaching other climbers to move better, think more clearly and reach goals they did not think were within reach.
My focus is coaching rather than guiding. There are many people who will take you climbing for a day. Far fewer will sit with how you actually move on the wall, where your head holds you back, and what specific skills will unlock your next grade. That is the work I care about, and it is what Rock Motion is built around.
Why I coach
I spent my early years climbing just trying to go harder, without really understanding how. The breakthroughs only came when someone helped me see what I was doing wrong: how I was standing, where I was looking, what my head was doing when it got hard.

That is why I coach. Plenty of people will take you out for a day on the rock. Far fewer will watch how you move, find the real thing holding you back, and give you the tools to fix it for good. Whether it is unlocking a move you have battled for months or leading your first route, that progress never gets old.
